Outlying Communities of Colorado Springs

If you are looking to move out of the city, but want to be close enough to some modern conveniences, take a look at the following six communities.

Florissant is 8200 feet above sea level, thirty-eight miles west of Colorado Springs. It is located in Teller County, and home to over 80,000 fossil specimens extracted from the Florissant lake bed within the Fossil Bed National Monument. Beautiful estates and ranches intermingle to create a perfect rural mountain lifestyle.

Lake George and Eleven Mile Reservoir are nearby for boating, fishing, hiking, camping, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, and rock climbing. Horse back riding is available for hire through individual area ranches, and during the holidays some offer sleigh rides. Buena Vista and the Mountain Princeton Hot Springs Resort are within a short drive west for relaxation and supplies. Woodland Park is to the east for groceries and modern conveniences.

Divide is home to about 4,000 year-round Teller County residents. The area is protected from uncontrolled development by a regional growth plan that protects view corridors and the types of development that are appropriate for a rural community. Nestled on the north slope of Pikes Peak, it is the gateway to outstanding State and National Parks.

“Over the past 100+ years of settlement in the region, Divide has seen a range of activities from ranching and farming (iceberg lettuce and potatoes being the most notable crops), to tourism.” Divide Chamber

Bordering the north end of Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Black Forest area encompasses some 200,000 acres, and is roughly defined as the area from Highway 83 to Eastonville Road, and County Line road to Woodmen Road in unincorporated El Paso County.

The area is heavily wooded with some open grassland areas, primarily on the southern boundary, and is characterized by mostly 5 acre and larger lots in a rural setting. This beautiful area was named by a German immigrant who thought that the dark hue of the Ponderosa Pine very closely resembled The Black Forest in Germany.

Peyton is an unincorporated town and a U.S. Post Office in El Paso County, Colorado. The population was 71 at the 2000 census. Peyton has the ZIP Code of 80831. The nearby, unincorporated area of Falcon also uses zip code 80831. Peyton and towns such as Falcon, Calhan, Ramah, Simla, and Matheson straddle Highway US 24 between Colorado Springs and Limon, Colorado where US 24 intersects with Interstate 70.

The Black Squirrel Creek Bridge is registered as a National Historic Place located between Peyton and Falcon. The Homestead Ranch Regional Park has a playground a hiking trails.

Ellicot is in El Paso County, east of the Colorado Springs metro area. The community was named for George Ellicott, postmaster. If you are looking for a truly rural experience, Ellicot is for you!

Fountain is America's Millennium City and 2002 All-America City. Located at the base of Pikes Peak, Fountain has all the amenities of urban living at its doorstep, yet is still a place where people enjoy the advantages of neighborly living in a small town atmosphere.

Located 10 miles south of Colorado Springs, 30 miles north of Pueblo along I-25, residents enjoy the scenic view of Pikes Peak. Fort Carson is to the west with one gate bordering Fountain.
